Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)


The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is ideal for students who wish to pursue an academic career in IT.  This is a 100 per cent research program.

To graduate, you must complete a course of postgraduate training in research under proper academic supervision, and submit a thesis of no more than 100,000 words.  The thesis has to be examined, and shown to be a significant contribution to knowledge, and demonstrate that you are capable of carrying out independent research.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in the School of Information Technology may be undertaken in the principal areas of research offered by the School including, but not limited to:

  • Content-based multimedia information retrieval
  • Supply chain management systems & logistics
  • Computational techniques & stochastic modeling
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Computer graphics & image analysis
  • Embedded systems and autonomous mobile robotics
  • Data mining & knowledge discovery

4 years (full-time) and 8 years (part-time)

There is no specific intake period for the PhD program. Applications may be submitted throughout the year.
